Plan of Conservation and Development

In 2009, the Conservation Commission requested a report on natural resources in Newtown. The Town retained Milone & MacBroom, Inc. (MMI) to develop a Natural Resource Inventory (NRI), in preparation for its upcoming revision to the 2004 Plan of Conservation and Development. MMI was given full access to Town lands and open space parcels and received the full cooperation of the Newtown Forest Association. Other participants included Ms. Alicia Messier, Dan Cruson, Town Historian; Botanist Lauren Brown and CT DEEP Fishery Biologist Michael Humphreys, as well as many local volunteers.

Natural Resource Inventory (October 2011)

The 2014 updated Plan of Conservation and Development used the NRI information for sections on wildlife, plants and trees, soil resources, watershed, wetlands and watercourses, and water production and surfaces water quality. The Town's vision for Conservation and Natural Resources and Open Space can be seen on pages 26-50.
