Waypoint 6: The Connecticut Garnet Trail
The Connecticut Garnet Trail is a trail that is meant to enrich the community’s understanding and knowledge of the state’s minerals. It was founded by DEEP Greenways, and the trail highlights all minerals within CT (but mostly garnet). Garnet comes in 3 main forms, but in Connecticut, it’s most prevalent in schist. There are multiple CT Garnet Trails within the state, including trails in Tolland and the Hammonasset State Park, where there is a significant amount of garnet on the western side of the beach. The sand even has a pink tint to it!
